FirePower is a community tech project designed to help us all understand the fire risks we face in our homes.
We have more electrical items than ever before, we’re constantly charging devices and we don’t always understand the risks we face.
FirePower enables us all to do a FREE quick audit of our homes to see what might need fixing; and what habits we might need to change.
FirePower is run by Common Ground, a community interest company based in North Kensington. Common Ground was started by our founder and local resident Cathy Long as a response to the Grenfell Fire in June 2017 which devastated our community. 72 lives were lost and for numerous families, survivors and friends, life would never be the same again.
Common Ground now works on projects that bring communities together. It started when Cathy met former firefighter and social housing campaigner Phil Murphy at a community event. Phil had long wanted to develop something like this, and Cathy vowed to help make his idea happen. They shared a passion for social justice and a determination to ensure that nothing like the Grenfell Fire would happen again.

FirePower is funded by the Grenfell Projects Fund, Electrical Safety Fund and FM Global. If you can fund us or help us to bring the project to more people, get in touch!
Home fires are caused by everyday items such as fridges and phones, cables and sockets. Even draughts can be a risk. Lithium batteries are a particular problem, and they are in all sorts of items we use on a regular basis. It’s not all about chip pans anymore!
By identifying and reporting any fire safety concerns, you can keep you and your community safe.
Use our app to find detailed information about potential hazards and the ways to report and have these repaired. As well as a personalised fire safety report with handy tips to help you live safer.
